The Raceway at Powercom Park 8-11-06 Fifty-two modifieds were on hand for Day 1 of the 2-Day Modified Special at The Raceway at Powercom Park on Friday night. Joining the Johnsonville Brats modifieds were the Northwoods Paper Converting Grand Nationals and the Dodge Central Credit Union Stocks. Russ Reinwald of Iron Ridge wasted little time as he charged from his second row starting position to take the lead on lap one of the 25-lap modified A-Main. Reinwald never gave up the top spot as he raced to his second win of the season. Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam moved up into the second position early in the race. Although Schraufnagel stayed within striking distance, he was never able to catch Reinwald and settled for second. Mike Sandholm of Oconomowoc fought his way up from the fourth row to finish in third. Eddie Lemay Jr. of Milwaukee drove to fourth. Brian Drexler of Oshkosh, making his first appearance of the season, came from the sixth row to finish in fifth. Larry Zirbel of Iron Ridge followed in sixth ahead of Frank Firari of Lowell and Jim Zdroik of Big Bend. Point leader Craig Priewe of Beaver Dam drove to ninth. Dennis Krause of Oconomowoc was tenth. Four different drivers would lead in the 20-lap grand nationals A-Main. Eric Grunst of Beaver Dam led the opening lap before giving way to Geoff Zdroik of Big Bend. One lap later, Steve Seitz of Beaver Dam moved to the point. Seitz remained out in front while Roger Lee of Wind Lake put the pressure on most of the way. As the pair exited turn four heading for the white flag, Lee found room inside of Seitz and slipped past to take over the lead. At the checkered flag, Lee crossed the line in first to pick up his second consecutive win in the division and move into the lead in the division point standings by one point over Don Sorce Jr. of West Allis. Seitz finished second in the race followed by Sorce and Nick Schumacher of Eagle. Geoff Zdroik of Big Bend had his best finish of the season in fifth. The finish of the 20-lap stocks A-Main was not what it seemed. Jerry Kope of Oshkosh took over the lead with four laps remaining and was the first to take the checkered flag. However, Kope failed post race inspection handing the win to Brent Lepple of Beaver Dam. It was Lepples first win of the season.
