Dayton, OH - (12/4) - Kil-Kare Speedway will honor all their top drivers from the 2006 season on Saturday night, January 13, at the Green County Fairgrounds banquet building in Xenia.
The ole veteran of the speedway John Vallo will be recognized as the late model champ. Vallo has his sights on reaching the magic num 300 in feature wins as he made it 292 this past season. Ever smilin' Shawn Gray will walk off with the top awards in modified class. Tom Williams will pick up his third championship award as the top driver in the sport stocks and Randy Walton will claim his first ever championship award as he topped the compact division.
All the fun will take place at the Greene County Fairgrounds with tickets available at $30 each by contacting the track office at 937 429-2961.
The Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club held their 37th annual "Banquet of Champions" last Saturday night with a full house on hand. For those present they were a part of DARF history as for the first time DARF honored champs from fifteen different tracks, three associations, and a record number of champions under one roof, forty-four. In all drivers from four states received awards.
35 Raceway Park was well represented with all five of their champs on hand. Nineteen year old Brandy Bower was the mini sprint champ wile veteran John Evans claimed the DWARF car top honors. Chip Truitt was honored as the 4-cylinder stock champ and Dennis Griffith claimed the sportsman DWARF award.
Anderson Speedways Ronnie Rose was honored as the super truck champ, Rod Phipps claimed two titles at Anderson as he reigns as the street stock and thunder cars pro champ.
Receiving championship awards from Columbus Motor Speedway was modified champ Terry Humphrey who is certainly a veteran of the speedway with his many years experience there. Joining Humphrey was sports stock champ James Harding, late model champ Donnie "Zero" Hill, and crazy compact driver Michael Hyler.
Jerry Rice represented Eldora Speedway as their late model champ while third generation driver Shawn Phillipi claimed the Eldora stock car champ award.
From Flat Rock Speedway Paul Pelletier received the late model award and Steve Cronenwett Jr. the street stock a mail champ award.
Gas City I-69 Speedway was represented by street stock champ Josh Owens.
John Vallo was on hand to claim the Kil-Kare Speedway late model champ award as was modified champ Shawn Gray, sports stock champ Tom Williams, and compact champ Randy Walton.
Second generation sprint car driver Tony Beaber picked-up the Lawrenceburg sprint champ award with Jerry Back claiming the super stock, Dana Moore the pure stock, and Brad Wieck the UMP modified champ award.
Championship awards for Limaland Motorsports Park went sprint champ Mike Dussel and stock car champ Tony Anderson.
All Shady Bowl Speedway champs were on hand with Jim Lewis Jr. in the late models, Josh Smith in the modifieds, Shawn Stansell in the street stocks, Gary Eaton in the Pro-4's, and Brad Worley claiming their championship awards.
Dave Golembierwski represented Toledo Speedway as their factory stock champ.
From Union County Speedway top honors went to late model champ Bob Franklin, modifieds Ron Jolliff, street stock to David Smith, and road hog to Steve Hensley.
Association recipients were KOIL participants Sloan Henderson in the bandoleros and Toby Alfrey in the pro legends cars. Ohio Valley Karting Association Junior Yamaha champ Sterling Shaw, Junior sportsman Yamaha champ Chase Stempfley, and Yamaha lite champ Eric Wirtz. American Modified Series champ Mike Carroll claimed the AMS championship award.
In the special awards category John Vallo received the Dick Freeman memorial award. The Duke Dinsmore memorial award went to Dayton Daily News reporter Greg Billing. 35 Raceway promoter received the John Marcum memorial award. Claiming the John "Shorty" Miller service award was Tom Jennings. Mechanic of the year was Joe Westfall. Announcer of the year was the voice of Shady Bowl Speedway Earl Isaacs. Junior announcer of the year recipient was young Brad Stapleton. Named safety crew of the year was the crew at Eldora Speedway. Couple of the year was Dave and Melanie Stacy. Receiving sponsor of the year was Jerry Moore of Moore Trucking. Shannon McIntosh received the asphalt driver of the year award while the dirt driver of the year went to Jerry Rice. Dakota Armstrong received the rookie of the year award and the Jeff Carter family received the family of the year award. The presidents award was presented to former DARF president Karl Brown.
Hope I didn't miss anyone but if I did I'll pick them up next time.
Jimmy Stinson, look out down at K-C Raceway next year as you are going to have a new challenger to contend with. 35 Raceway Brandy Bower is moving up to the 410 sprints next season and says she will be heading to K-C.
Wonder what Shady Bowl Speedway promoter has up his sleeve as he announced at the DARF banquet there will be a big announcement merging from the Bowl real soon. As he said, check the track website, www.shadybowlspeedway.com.
Track schedules are starting to arrive with the now under construction new Moler Raceway Park just east of Cincinnati being the first. Tom Wieck who formerly promoted Lawrenceburg Speedway has been hired by Kim and Kevin Moler of MRP to over see the operation of their new dirt track.
Kil-Kare also has their new schecule out with another full schedule of events planned but one thing is noticeably missing and that is the Hooter's car are not listed.
Understand a new motel will soon appear on the outskirts of Winchester (Ind). and reportedly Winchester Speedway owner Charlie Shaw is one of the principals.
Don't let the cold winter get you down as their will be indoor racing thanks to Tony Barhorst and the Rumble Series gang. First it will be Fort Wayne, Indiana on December 29 and 30th with the USAC National Midgets, Ford Focus Midgets, Kenyon Midgets, outlaw winged modified midgets, go karts, Lucas Oil quarter midgets and winged Jr. midgets. That should be enough to wet your appetite and of course Tony Stewart will be in competition again.
