RICHEST MINI STOCK EVENT EVER AT MERCER TO HEADLINE “SCREAMIN’ DEMONS HALLOWEEN MOTORSPORTS FESTEVIL” ON OCT 31; TRUCK PULLS, DUKES STUNT SHOW, TRICK OR TREATING, SWAP MEET & MORE!

By Mike Leone

Mercer, PA…10/22/09 - Always on the cutting edge of new and exciting events, the inaugural “Screamin’ Demons Halloween Motorsports FestEvil” will be coming to Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday, October 31 to close out the 2009 season. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and encompass racing, truck and tractor pulling, trick or treating, kids bike races, and a swap meet earlier in the day.

The Mini Stock division thrived in the 1970s and early 80s at The Park setting the stage for many future racers. After Mercer closed after the 1982 season, the division was dormant at The Park until being revitalized at the 2006 “Little Guy Nationals” then brought back on a weekly basis in 2007 for the first time in 25 years! The division has grown annually so much that it was decided to create a major event around!

Thus the M&D Paving Mini Stocks will highlight the “Screamin’ Demons Motorsports FestEvil” with their own event titled the “Warlock 30” Pennsylvania State Mini Stock Championship. The event will be formatted similar to a World of Outlaw Sprint Car or Late Model show with qualifying, heat races, B mains, dash, and a four-wide parade lap will highlight the start of the “Warlock 30”feature!

The inaugural champion will not only receive the record $600 top prize, but also a championship plaque along with an embroidered warlock cape and scepter! There will also be an exciting non-qualifiers feature paying a complete 24-car purse with $100 to-win! Also, Mercer supporter Gene Steele of Pemberville, Ohio has put up $64 in honor of his 64th birthday for the 31st place driver on the 31st. In other words, the driver that finishes seventh in the non-qualifiers feature will receive this generous bonus.

“The Mini Stocks have become more and more prominent not only at Mercer, but at the surrounding speedways,” explained 11th year owner Vicki Emig. “With their popularity they have been included in many special events; however, we want them to be the spotlight this night as they won’t be overshadowed by any other division. The interest has been great with calls from all over western and central Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and New York. We need the support in order to make this an annual event that we can build.”

Modifications have been made to the rules to allow additional teams throughout the region to compete. The highlights are that fuel cells are highly recommended, recaps are allowed, and front-end and front bumper supports are permitted. Additional allowances are posted on our website at www.mercerracewaypark.com; however, performance modifications will not be allowed as “stock means stock”.

The “Ghoul Pulls” will join this motorsports extravaganza and spotlight three divisions of truck pulling (Super Street 4x4, Street Stock Diesel 4x4, Street Stock Semis) and V8 Modified Antique Tractors sanctioned by the Allegheny Highland Pulling Association. They will be competing for increased purse structures with the top three receiving trophies. Also, the top competitor in each of the truck classes from Mercer, Crawford, and Lawrence Counties will receive an additional cash bonus and trophy.

The Northeast Ohio Dukes will thrill the crowd with their thrilling “Hazzard County Stunt Show” featuring the famous General Lee and Sheriff Rosco’s Police Car. The “Dukes Hazzard” characters we all know and love will also take part in this production including Bo, Luke, Daisy, Uncle Jesse, Sheriff Rosco, and Boss Hogg. Bo Duke and a couple of his sidekicks will also be available in the midway area for a two-hour meet, greet, and photo opportunity prior to the start of the night’s exciting show.

Numerous activities will be added throughout the night making “Screamin’ Demons” a true Halloween FestEvil to give fans and their families incentive to spend their Halloween Night at The Park. The centerpiece, a “Junk ‘n the Trunk” Trick or Treat extravaganza, will give kids an opportunity to actually trick or treat right on the grounds of Mercer Raceway Park as approximately 25 area businesses and individuals will have their vehicle’s trunks and tailgates overflowing with goodies galore.

The “Kids Bike Race Super Nat’s” presented by Ray’s Racing Collectibles will be promoted as The Park’s biggest bike race event ever. Cash and prizes will be awarded to all divisional winners, while all others will receive recognition and special items for their participation. Kids 12 and under will be eligible to compete and helmets are required.

The popular third annual BRP Tour/Big Daddy’s Speed Center Flea Market & Swap Meet will come to Mercer for the first time ever and kickoff the day’s events as racers from throughout the region will congregate on the grounds from 9 in the morning and continue until 3 in the afternoon. Admission to the flea market is only $3 and vendor cost is $20 and will be rain or shine. Setup begins at 7 a.m. For information on the flea market/swap meet, contact Ray Baselj at 724-458-6465.

Following the night’s festivities, a Halloween Party blowout will take place at the Pitt Stop Pub located just minutes away and south of town on Route 19.

Pit gates will open at 3 p.m. and grandstands at 4. Hot laps for Mini Stocks will be at 5 p.m. followed by qualifying at 5:30 and the event beginning at 6. Admission for “Screamin’ Demons” Halloween FestEvil excluding the swap meeting will be just $10 for adults, $5 for students 6-15, and $25 for families, while pit passes will be $25. The rain date for this event is the following Saturday. Businesses and individuals wishing to participate in the “Junk ‘n the Truck” portion should contact our offices at 724-964-9300.
