BLOOMQUIST HAS COMPANY CHALLENGING FOR UNSANCTIONED NATIONAL RANKINGS LEAD

story by: Steve Hixson

(05/14/07) -- He may be a TEAM ZERO company man, but nevertheless Chris Madden is slowly inching towards the UNSANCTIONED NATIONAL RANKINGS points lead, held (since February) by Scott Bloomquist. Shannon Babb and fellow/new World of Outlaw Late Model series points leader Clint Smith are also in the mix having fair finishes as their series is out in the Central part of the United States for pretty-much until the end of the month. The other top National touring series (the LUCAS OIL DIRTCAR series) even has sanctioned events out around the MID-WEST of Illinois and Iowa, all of which will culminate with the 15th Annual "O'Reilly Auto Parts SHOW ME 100" on Memorial Day weekend at WPMS. Rankings leader BLACK SUNSHINE had an uncharacteristically bad weekend of racing, failing to transfer to the "A"
Main Saturday night in the LUCAS OIL feature race.

Over the weekend (the second in May 2007) Brian Birkhofer took a major leap in the RANKINGS with a $25,000 victory at the SUPERCHIPS "Diamond Nationals"
at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. Three new and first time WoOLMs winners have thrown their names into the NCC rankings ring, two of which enter for the first time this season. Brian Harris piloting the # 21H "Reynolds Motor Company, Roehlk Construction" sponsored raceteam has two finishes in NCC guidelined events, so far after his Wednesday WoOLMs win in Davenport, IL, which places him just inside the top 20 tied with Jimmy Mars.
Chathem, IL racer Brian Shirley, most noted for his $35,000 victory in 2006 at the KNOXVILLE LATE MODEL NATIONAL in Iowa posted his first win as did Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL.
