Tim Tungate Tames 4th Annual Jerry Rucker Memorial at Bluegrass Speedway Bardstown, KY-May 12, 2007- Tim Tungate of Campbellsville, KY would score his 26th career Super Late Model feature victory at Bluegrass Speedway when he captured the 4th Annual Jerry Rucker Memorial on Saturday night at Bluegrass Speedway. Other feature winners included Timmy Glazer of Bardstown, KY in Street Stocks, Freddy Garmon of Glasgow, KY in Modifieds, and Kevin Wilson of Versailles, KY in Sportsman.
Dustin Neat and Whitney McQueary would bring the 30 lap, $2,000 to win main event for the 44 Auto Mart Super Late Models to the green flag after the initial start was waved off for Joey Tackett not coming up to speed at the start. Once underway, McQueary would take the lead, followed by Neat, Cody Mahoney, Bryan Barber, and Timmy Yeager. Barber would dive past Mahoney for third on lap 2, only to have Mahoney take the spot back on lap 3. Lap 4 would see the first caution of the race as Joey Daniel would climb the wall in turn one and two and come to rest on the track and would end up leaving the track via the hook of a tow vehicle. Back under green, ninth starting Tungate would make his way into the top five on lap 6. McQueary and Neat would set a blistering pace at the point and would pull away from the three-way battle between Mahoney, Barber, and Tungate. Tungate would go to fourth on lap 8, as the leaders started lapping slower traffic. Barber and Yeager would settle into a duel for fourth on lap 10, with Tungate taking third from Mahoney one circuit later. Yeager would start to pressure Mahoney for fourth and claim the spot on lap 12, while Lee Devasier would pressure Mahoney for fifth. Lap 16 would see a red flag displayed when Daryl Rucker made hard contact with the backstretch and turn three retaining wall, ending his evening. McQueary was still the race leader once action resumed, with Tungate now chasing after Neat for the runner-up slot. Tungate would claim second on lap 18, as Yeager, Mahoney, Devasier, and Barber battled for fourth through seventh. As the laps began to wind down, Tungate slowly reeled in race leader McQueary and the pair would see the two lap to go signal in a dead heat at the start/finish line. As the lead duo drove down the backchute and entered turn three, the pair attempted to split a slower car as they had caught the back of field. As the trio entered turn three, contact was made and McQueary and the slower car would spin and bring out the caution flag, with McQueary pulling his mount pitside. The final two laps would see Tungate stave off the challenges of seventh place starter Yeager to claim the victory in the Logan and Jane Parrott owned, B & W Auto Sales and Recyclers/Barnes Auto Sales/Guardian Mortgage/J &L Title/Commonwealth Building Products/Terry Auto Center/Mulch Madness/Smoke Pit/ABC Child Care sponsored #18 MasterSbilt Race Cars, Pro Power Race Engines entry. Yeager would claim second, followed by Neat, Mahoney, and 14th starting Rick Corbin. Completing the top ten were Devasier, Barber, Jordan Bland, Jeff Watson, and Ed Behn. Twenty-two entries saw Bland be the SpeeDecals Vinyl Graphics top qualifier, with Neat winning the dash. Heat race wins went to Yeager and Watson. The 12 lap Street Stock main event would see Timmy Glazer fend off the challenges of Michael Cranmer and Pat Cranmer to pick up his first feature checkered flag of the year at Bluegrass Speedway in his Independent Stave Company/First South Credit/ Tech 1 sponsored #93 Monte Carlo mount. Michael Cranmer and Pat Cranmer would go second and third, with Robbie Settles and Darrell Biven completing the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Dan Bryan, Jason Priddy, Jeff Cranmer, Daroyl Samples, and David Bayans. Eighteen entries saw Willie Edelen set fast time and win the dash, with Bayans would be the heat event victor.
The 20 lap Modified main event saw Dion Benningfield and Jason Wheatley battle in the waning laps, with the pair side-by-side on the final lap and the duo would split a pair of lapped cars in turn three on the final lap, making a four-wide situation in turn four. Contact would ensue and Benningfield and Wheatley would spin in the center of turns three and four and Freddy Garmon would lead the final quarter of a lap to pick up his first win at Bluegrass in '07 in the Kelvin Wilson Dozing/Williams and Tucker Auto Parts/Steele's Body Shop/Horton Racing/Wompus Cat Enterprises sponsored #10 Lightning Chassis, Davis Machine Shop powered unit. Seventh starting Joe Mattingly would claim second, ninth starting Benji Lee would finish third, with 15th starter Robbie Gullion and 11th place starting J.T. Ayers taking fourth and fifth. The remainder of the top ten would be Randy Turpin, Sam Murphy, Sr., Wheatley, Jay Mobley, and Kevin Copher. Twenty-six entries drew for heat race starting positions and heat victories were garnered by Kelly Warren, Benningfield, and Josh Lucas.
The Sportsman feature event would be all Kevin Wilson as he led all 15 circuits to claim the top prize in his Wilson's Used Auto Parts/Sutherland Brothers Farms/Little Man Horseshoeing/Nealco Electric/McDougal's Garden Center/Non-Such Campground #98 Monte Carlo. Barry Chesser would take runner-up honors, followed by Pat Hagan, Avral Thompson, and Jimmy Bryan. Rob Jones would head up the second five, trailed by Casey Bryan, Ricky Walton, Roger Cecil, and Jenna Chesser. Fifteen entries also drew for heat starting assignments, with heat race checkered flags falling to Wilson and Jones.
