G.R. Smith Records First Dirt Late Model Win at Modoc! March 27, 2006 (MOORESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA) G.R. Smith racked up his first career Dirt Late Model feature victory last Friday night at the Modoc Speedway in Modoc, South Carolina. The young Mooresville, North Carolina transplant started off the evening by posting the quickest time in qualifying on the ultra-quick Modoc racing surface. In only his ninth race behind the wheel of his Dirt Wheels Speed Shop / Giacobbe Trucking / Baker Carburetion #22 Rocket / Pro Power Grand Prix, G.R. bested Casey Roberts and Jack Pennington, among others, for the $2,000 victory! Following the big win at Modoc, the Premier Motorsports team traveled to the I-20 Speedway in Batesburg, South Carolina on Saturday for an unsanctioned, $4,000 to win show. G.R. qualified tenth and rolled off from the outside of the fifth row in the A-Main. The immaculately prepared #22 machine immediately made a charge to the front, only to get spun out after advancing to the fifth spot. G.R. restarted his mount from the tail of the field and made another charge, this time to the third position. He was a close third to Jack Pennington and Rambo Franklin when the two leaders made contact, sending Pennington into G.R. After heading pitside to make repairs to his ride, G.R. returned to the track to salvage a solid eighth place finish. “It is great to get that first win under our belt,” stated the young, clean-cut driver when asked about his run at Modoc last Friday. “Our car was really strong all night and I was able to beat some of those guys that run Modoc regularly, so that felt really good. That was the first time that I have raced a Dirt Late Model at a track multiple times and we ended up winning at Modoc in our second time there. Then at I-20, I feel like we had a legitimate shot of winning that race as well. We came from the back a couple of times and got up there and battled for the lead before the leaders made contact in front of me. I feel like our Dirt Late Model program is really taking shape and I am looking forward to the rest of the season!” The Premier Motorsports team is set to invade the Clary’s Speedway in Brinkleyville, North Carolina this Saturday, April 1. The third annual ‘Nathan Wright Memorial’ is on tap at Clary’s and a buxom $10,000 top prize is on the line for the Dirt Late Model division. A full racing program is on tap this Saturday and the event should draw plenty of heavy hitters for the large payday. This will be G.R.’s first visit to the Tarheel State venue. G.R. Smith Readies for Daytona ARCA 200 FOLSOM, NEW JERSEY - February 8, 2006 - G.R. Smith announced today that he will in fact drive the #94 entry out of the Bobby Gerhart Racing stables this Saturday, February 11 in the 43rd running of the Daytona ARCA 200 at the famed Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. G.R. will be a teammate of the three-time Daytona winner Bobby Gerhart and will pilot the BGR Research / Lucas Oil sponsored #94 Monte Carlo. The popular ARCA RE/MAX Series event will be broadcast live on the SPEED Channel at 4:00 p.m. late Saturday afternoon. G.R. earned his best career ARCA finish last year at Daytona when he finished sixteenth after qualifying his mount fourteenth fastest of the stout field at the 2.5 mile superspeedway. The Folsom, New Jersey native also has experience behind the wheel of the very race car that he will be piloting on Saturday. He was thirteenth fastest in an ARCA practice session at Daytona back on December 16, 2005. His teammate Bobby Gerhart was the quickest in that particular practice session at 184.388 mph. "I am extremely excited to compete at Daytona this weekend and I think we have a car to run up front," commented Smith recently. "Bobby (Gerhart) has great equipment and I am very comfortable in the car that I will be driving this week. We need to qualify well and if we can do that, I think our chances of staying up front all day are pretty good. I definitely believe that we have a car to qualify in the top five and if we can stay out of trouble, I think we can finish in the top five. I want to thank Bobby Gerhart Racing for giving me the opportunity to compete in his equipment this week at Daytona and for Lucas Oil and the rest of our great sponsors for their support." The ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Daytona has drawn a record 71 entries this year. Practice for Saturday's Daytona ARCA 200 will commence on Thursday, while ARCA Pork Pole Qualifying will take place at 11:05 a.m. on Friday morning. Positions 1-32 will be filled with the qualifying procedures, while provisionals will make up the rest of the starting field. The green flag for the 80-lap/200-mile Daytona ARCA 200 will drop at 4:10 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, with the SPEED Channel covering the event live on television.
