Patrick Sheltra Dominates Hobby Stock 100 at Volusia Before Suffering Mechanical Failure January 23, 2006 (INDIANTOWN, FLORIDA) For eighty-one laps on Saturday evening, Patrick Sheltra made the $5,000 to win Hobby Stock feature event at the Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Florida a snoozer, as he ran off and hid from the rest of the field. While enjoying more than a twenty car-length lead on the second place runner with less than twenty circuits to go, Patrick busted a rear end gear, ending his stellar run for the $5,000 top prize. With all of the atrocity throughout the event due to the rough track conditions, Patrick was still able to finish ninth in the final rundown of his opening event for 2006. “That one definitely got away,” plainly stated the young Indiantown, Florida driver on Monday. “The track was extremely rough and you couldn’t find a groove to get away from all of the ruts. You just had to drive through them and hope your car held up. Unfortunately for us the rear end gear let go and so did our chances of winning the $5,000. I said last week that the race was more for fun than the money, but you hate to lose the race in that fashion after having the field pretty much covered. We all had a good time though and I am looking forward to the start of our Dirt Late Model season at Brunswick on February 1.” Patrick was the second fastest car in qualifying on Friday, only being bested by his team car, which was driven by Michael Lloyd. Both Sheltra and Lloyd took their respective heat race wins, which set-up an all Sheltra Motorsports front row for the 100-lap main event on Saturday evening. Michael didn’t have much better luck than Patrick, as he hit the wall on the first lap after catching a rut, but rebounded to post an eleventh place finish. Patrick and the Sheltra Motorsports team will now gear up for their Dirt Late Model opener at the Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, Georgia on February 1. He will compete in all four nights of the ‘Super Bowl of Racing II’ at the 5/8-mile Georgia speedplant. From there, the driver of the Sheltra & Sons Construction / Brady Ranch / Petroff Towing #23 Rayburn / Pro Power entry will head to the East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Florida for the 30th edition of the ‘Winternationals.’ He will compete in six straight nights of wheel-to-wheel racing action at the place deemed as the “Clay by the Bay.” His busy Speedweeks will wrap up with six straight nights of Dirt Late Model competition on February 13-18 at the Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Florida. Patrick and the Sheltra Motorsports team would like to thank all of their sponsors and supporters including: Sheltra & Sons Construction, Brady Ranch, Petroff Towing, Allabout Flowers, Siboney Contracting Company, C.J. Rayburn Race Cars, Clements Racing Engines, Pro Power Racing Engines, Flora Ganics, Stimmell’s Sport Shop, Johnson & Company, Delph Communications, B&K Sportswear, and VP Racing Fuels.
