Brian Birkhofer Turns Around Season with Huge Win at Wheatland! (MUSCATINE, IOWA) May 13, 2007 - Brian Birkhofer finally broke through into the winner's column over the weekend, as he notched his first victory of 2007 at the pristine Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri! On Friday evening, May 11, Brian posted the twelfth fastest lap of the sixty entrants in qualifying for the inaugural Superchips 'Diamond Nationals,' which was presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts. The Muscatine, Iowa native then went on to win his heat race in dominating fashion over Chris Simpson and Brian Harris to earn a coveted spot in the $25,000 to win, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned feature event. The popular driver known throughout the country as "Birky" drew a
number one following the heat race action, which meant that he would lead the
star-studded field to green in the 100-lap A-Main on Saturday night. After
succumbing to outside polesitter Don O'Neal on the first lap, Brian hung around
the top three and waited to make his move. The former 'World 100' "I think we finally got that big, heavy gorilla off of our back," joked Brian after winning the premier event on Saturday evening. "This year has been a tough one so far, but it just shows that if you keep working hard, good things are sure to come your way. I guess I was good enough to be lucky and get into victory lane. A lot of times you can be lucky and get the pole for a race and not do anything with it. But fortunately, the crew put a good car underneath of me and we were able to take advantage and get the win. I have to thank Scott Small from S&S Concrete, Wiggy from Executive Finish, and my buddy Doug Reizer for all of their help over the weekend. I also want to wish my mom and my wife Alissa a very happy Mother's Day!" Earlier in the week, the Birkhofer Racing team was in action on the 1/4-mile oval at the Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa. Brian was second fastest in qualifying for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series show on Wednesday, May 9 and later won his heat race. He drew a four prior to the running of the $10,000 to win A-Main and after fifty green flag racing laps, Brian found himself credited with a third place performance behind winner Brian Harris and runner-up Jimmy Mars. You can view complete results from this show online at www.worldofoutlaws.com! "We had a decent run at Davenport, but I was pretty disappointed with the track conditions," commented Birkhofer. "For the racers, we race on one-lane tracks far too often, but I really feel bad for the fans. I know they came out wanting to see a good show and we weren't able to give it to them. But, I want to congratulate Brian Harris on his big win, as it was great to see a local guy keep the money in the state of Iowa!" Brian and his #15b team will be back in action this coming weekend in a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events. On Friday, May 18, Brian will compete in a $10,000 to win show at the Farley Speedway in Farley, Iowa. The LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois will then host a similar race on Saturday evening.
