CHASE AUSTIN TO DRIVE FOR
FAMILY-OWNED AUSTIN RACING IN 2006
EUDORA, KS (February 7, 2006) Chase Austin will not be competing with STAR
Motorsports in 2006 as originally planned. However, the talented Kansan, who
just relocated to Mooresville, N.C., still hopes to compete at the USAR Pro Cup
level this season with family-owned Austin Racing.
"STAR was hoping to put everything in place to allow us to be competitive
in the 2006 season," said the 16-year-old Austin. "I appreciate
everything they tried to do, starting a team from scratch, which is a huge
challenge."
Tim Shutt, previously a NASCAR Busch series crew chief with Joe Gibbs Racing and
ppc Racing, will spearhead Austin's program. Shutt agreed to work with Austin
after just one day of testing with the youngster at Caraway Speedway near
Asheboro, N.C.
"Rob Albright from Motorsports Authentics, who is promoting Chase's career,
asked me to test with Chase for a day to assess his potential,” Shutt said.
"I knew in less than two hours that this was a young talent I wanted to be
associated with. I'm convinced Chase can be a superstar in this sport and I'm
doing everything I can to help make that
happen."
Austin has successfully competed on both dirt and asphalt. His experience
includes everything from go-karts to full-size stock cars, participating in
numerous touring series, including the American Speed Association (ASA) Late
Model Series in 2005.
With shop space in Mooresville, North Carolina, Austin Racing has begun building
cars, contacting potential sponsors and preparing for the 2006 USAR Pro Cup
schedule. With a veteran like Shutt on board, Austin believes the team has the
ingredients to be competitive.
"Tim and I had a great test at Hickory and Peach State in the Pro Cup
car," Austin said. "I'm excited about competing at this level and
looking forward to learning as much as I can. We're just hoping to find a
partner or sponsor who shares our vision."
Austin started racing go-karts in 1998, earning more than 60 feature wins and
150 heat-race victories before progressing to micro sprint cars in 2001. After
16 victories in less than two seasons, the Eudora, Kan., native jumped to
full-size sprint cars before trying his hand at late models on dirt and
pavement. Austin has scored more than 100 feature
wins at various levels -- go-karts, sprint cars and stock cars – since 1998.
